WITH SIT, SCIENTIFIC DISCUSSION BECOMES SIT-COM

SIT, the technology company that develops boiler control systems and intelligent gas meters, presents two days of unconventional debates about the future, under the patronage of the University of Padua.

Speakers will include, among others, such leaders in their fields as writer Antonio Scurati, astronaut Umberto Guidoni, up-and-coming Italian researchers Giorgio Vacchiano and Silvia Marchesan, business owner Massimiliano Magrini, and Gianmarco Montanari, Director General of the Italian Institute of Technology.

The first edition of SIT-COM will take place in Padua on November 20 and 21, in the Sala della Carità (free entry).

Padua, November 11, 2019. What does the future hold for us? What will our economy look like? What will our new jobs be, and where will we do them?

SIT, a worldwide technological company based in Padua, is helping to answer these questions – and in particular their significance for young people – by creating the first edition of SIT-COM. SIT-COM is an innovative platform combining scientific information and cultural entertainment, under the patronage of the University of Padua. The format brings the public together with opinion leaders from a range of fields in discussions about the most pressing issues for our future.

SIT-COM will be held in Padua on November 20 and 21, in the Sala della Carità. Entrance will be free.

“In the world of today, in which change has become a constant, we would like to help make sense of what the coming years have in store for us. To do this we are collaborating with people of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.” Our focus is particularly on young people, to support them in identifying the opportunities – not only the unknown ones – that changes in work and the economy will bring to the next generations”, said Federico de’ Stefani, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SIT.

The initiative begins in the afternoon of November 20 with a “battle of ideas” between two guests, both outstanding in their very different fields: Antonio Scurati, author, winner of the 2019 Strega Prize, and Umberto Guidoni, astronaut and astrophysicist.

The talk, moderated by journalist Jacopo Tondelli, will invite the two opinion leaders to discuss the provocative question “When will the future arrive? – Debates on possible worlds in history, science and technology”. Audience participation will make the talk as interactive as possible.

Between 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. of the following day the most familiar aspects of daily life will be reproduced in a format not dissimilar to that of a sitcom: four discussions based around the fundamental aspects of SIT’s business identity, led by directors of the company itself: Marco Croin, Marketing Director of the Heating Division; Giulio Prandi, Chief Operating Officer; Roberta Fagotto, Human Capital Director; and finally Federico de’ Stefani.

A dynamic approach will underpin each debate, designed to ensure a brisk tempo and frequent changes in role. Performances by the theatre improvisation company Aghetti Bruni will further add to the energy.

The first panel will be dedicated to “Green, blue and white economies: what colour will our future be?”. Among the participants will be Giorgio Vacchiano, identified by Nature magazine as one of the world’s 11 most influential scientists under 40, and Pier Mattia Avesani, CEO of Uqido, a software house working on artificial intelligence and IoT.

Work and the workplace will be the focus of the following two debates. “The job I do today and/is the job I’ll do tomorrow” will feature the talented young scientist Silvia Marchesan, from the university of Trieste, and Fabrizio Dughiero, Vice Chancellor of the University of Padua.

Guest speakers for “Virtual real space as the new workplace” will include Marco De Rossi, the young founder of WeSchool, one of Italy’s most influential digital teaching experiments.

SIT-COM concludes with a conversation between Federico de’ Stefani, SIT Chairperson, Massimiliano Magrini, co-founder of United Ventures, one of the key investors in young businesses in Italy, and Gianmarco Montanari, Director General of the Italian Institute of Technology. The topic of discussion will be ideas and sustainable technologies to build an open, collaborative future.
